Disaster Relief
After a natural disaster, such as the storms and tornadoes that hit Jefferson City in 2019, community members will come together to help their neighbors with clean-up, re-building, and financial and emotional support. Unfortunately, some people try to take advantage of consumers and homeowners who are anxious to repair their damaged homes.
MMLS helps mid-Missouri consumers and homeowners affected by the recent storms and tornadoes to protect themselves from scams perpetrated by storm-chasers. If you been a victim of a scam, please call MMLS at 573.442-0116.
MMLS Coordinates Efforts With Other Disaster Relief Organizations
MMLS receives its primary funding from the Legal Services Corporation (LSC). LSC has assisted with the development of a nonprofit organziation, Heartland Flood Help, that provides valuable information concerning what you should do and practical steps you can take if you have experienced either a flood or tornado. For more information you can go to www.heartlandfloodhelp.org.
MMLS participates with the other legal aid programs in Missouri in providing a statewide website. Within this website is a library that provides valuable information and access to other resources during the time of a natural disaster. To access this information you can go to the website at: www.lsmo.org.
